I’m not actually providing an exercise program for you but we should each have a plan. This area is your personal trainer of sorts. Share your plan, your successes and struggles and encourage each other to succeed. If you don’t have an exact plan yet, that’s Okay, here are some tips that can help:

First, you have to be honest with yourself about where you’re starting. Not just your weight, but think about your endurance level, strength and overall health.

Next, set some goals. What do you want to weigh? What other health benefits do you hope for? To give yourself extra incentive, you may consider signing up for a 10k run, or just plan a fun bike ride. This can give you something positive and fun to work toward.

Then, make a plan. Will you be going to a gym, working out with a friend, using a video or a game console? Or will you just get outside and walk? When will you workout? Where will you do it and for how long? Do you need variety to keep it interesting, or is consistency the key for you?

A goal without a plan is like a racecar without a steering wheel. It may be fast but it’s going to crash at the first turn.

Once you’ve figured some of this out, share it with us. Where you are, where you want to be and how you plan on getting there. If you are planning on doing an event of some kind, tell us about it. Maybe some of us can join in.

  1. I got the Wii game, "Just Dance 2" and it is GREAT! It's a fun way to work out and it IS a work out, I was sweating just like if I had done aerobics but I was just following the dance moves of the people on the game. There is a wide variety of songs to choose from, most of them are current, up beat songs that are good to dance to. Plus, it's a fun thing for our kids too - it'll help keep them in shape.
Just an idea of another way to exercise - I like to have variety, especially in the winter when it's too cold to run outside. ;-)

  2. We gave "just Dance 2" to Rachel for her birthday and it's totally a work out. My legs were feeling it after 'Iko Iko' just one time. It's definitely part of my plan.

  12. Wow you guys have done great this week. Well I signed up for yoga for 2 weeks it's my first time.. A lot of streching for the spine, legs, thighs, arms, so forth. It's been hard. It's a 90 min class in about 100 degrees room. So far though it's been an experience all right. Tomorrow will be my 4th day in a row, and I am sore.

  13. What a motivation you all are!!! Now that I'm not so sick (other than this dang stuffed up sinuses) I am ready to get going again! I'm jealous Dave, that you can run outside - it's WAY too cold here right now to run outside but I look forward to doing it when it warms up.
Kira, you are rockin' girl! Keep it up, it's making me want to get going more. Sally is so awesome too - no excuses, just do something, even if it's just running your home stairs and around in the basement!

  14. Great job everyone! My workouts included two days doing 45 minutes of weight lifting and an hour of cardio and the third day just doing another hour of cardio on the stairmaster and elliptical machines. I sure felt my sore arms today as I was cleaning house from the weight lifting. :-)

  17. I love having a work out partner! We get each other going before the sun comes up--what a great way to start the day.

  18. We're having fantastic weather so it's been great to get outside and enjoy it. I just got back from a terrific jog on a trail Alexis and I discovered near our house last week.

A couple of ibuprofen, a shower and I’ll be ready for my meeting at work!

  19. I like to walk with a friend but I don't have any neighbors close enough to walk with so I put on my bluetooth, call my sister and walk with her. She lives in Utah and I live in Washington. I have also walked with my husband when he is on his lunch break at work. I just love technology. No excuses!!

  20. I am walking every day with my dog, Cloe, she insists that we go so I always make it at least a mile or two. I've been doing Sweatin with the Oldies, and it's really fun, also Walking At Home with Leslie Sansone. I was stomping so much that my arches are really hurting so i'm going to try jut walking a while. Fayette is pretty small so I travel all over it to get enough miles.

  21. I have had a small set back with my workouts! Bec and I where doing really good, running before she would go to seminary in the morning. It worked for our busy life. Now my work schedule has changed and I am having a hard time working out on my own or finding times that we can go together! Just have to keep trying, finding times to get out and run! Tried kettle bell class. Great workout but I was sore for a week! We have some exercises video's that we like to do also, on days we don't run. It is helps to change it up! I really miss my workout partner! She is great motivations and I just really like being with her! Thinking skinny!

  22. One thing I have noticed as I have started weight lifting is that it's best to workout the next day doing cardio or lift a different muscle group I haven't worked out the day before even if I can't move well because I actually feel better after and the stiffness goes away faster. I also take amino acids before I lift to help my muscles recover faster and drinking water is HUGE in helping as well.

  23. Lucy (our Chihuahua) and I did over 6.5 miles yesterday. I ran the first half and walked the second. My calves were feeling it the rest of the day but it felt good to go that far. My goal is to get to where I can do the whole loop without stopping.

Just to answer some questions I’ve gotten, and correct me if I’m wrong, please: a 5K is approximately 3.1 miles, so 10K would be 6.2. A marathon is 26.2 miles so a half marathon would be 13.1.

So that means yesterday I did a 10K all together! Wow, I didn’t realize that until just now. No wonder I was feeling it. I think I’ll do a lighter workout today and run again tomorrow.
